Step #1

1. Inside your bag, observe the white mycelium eating away at the all-natural substrate. If your kit is ready for the next step, you should see a brown substrate with white mycelium growing on top. Signs of liquid or yellowing are normal as well as minor cracks and holes in substrate.

2. If not ready, place the unopened kit somewhere dark at room temperature. Check every other day until the kit becomes more white with mycelium. Fully colonized kits can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 3 months or 2 weeks most at room temperature in the DARK.

Step #2

1. Cut one of the corners of the bag and fill with cool water up until the filter patch OR cut the X as stated in the next step and just soak the block face down in a bowl of water. Let soak for 3-6 hours somewhere it will not spill then drain out all of the remaining water.

2. After soaking your kit, wipe down the outside of your bag with a clean towel. With a sharp and clean knife cut an X in the bag about 3-4 inches each cut.

3. Place in your house somewhere OUT of direct sunlight but not in the dark (reading light/countertop light), slightly cooler than room temperatures (around 60 degrees preferred but not crucial).

Step #3

1. Cover your kit with the reusable humidity tent provided. Mist the inside walls of your tent 2-3 times per day to keep the humidity levels high in your grow space until harvest.

2. VERY LIGHTLY mist the block once a day until you see tiny mushrooms starting to grow. After you see these babies appear, STOP misting the block and only mist the tent from now on to prevent contaminating your growing mushrooms.

3. It is recommended to harvest your oyster mushrooms after the caps have opened up wide but before the edges of the caps curl.

Step #4

1. To harvest your blue oyster mushrooms, twist and pull the bunch of mushrooms or use a sharp knife to cut them away from the block.

2. Blocks can be soaked overnight in water for second flush (harvest) or you can bury the bare block in a shady garden/mulch bed for a chance of mushrooms outdoors! They even make wonderful compost!
