Lion's Mane Mushroom Side Fruiting Instructions
Instructions on how to successfully harvest your Lion's Mane Mushrooms from the side of your kit. Wash your hands thoroughly and ensure a clean working environment.
IF YOUR KIT COMES DAMAGED OR BROKEN APART, remove the bag from the kit, keep it folded and very lightly press back together, and place in a dark clean area until it heals usually 1-2 weeks. DO NOT OPEN BAG. Packaging Tape Can Fix Any Holes You May Accidentally Get.
Step 1
- It is best to start your Lion’s Mane Mushroom Grow Kit as soon as you receive it or store it in the fridge for 2-3 months. We ship our Lion’s Mane Kits when they are fully colonized so there is no reason to keep it waiting.
- Once ready, remove the window from the box and make sure there is no blue, green or black mold growth before cutting. If your kit did go bad for whatever reason DO NOT OPEN IT. Send Pictures to info@flipsidefungi.com. We will decide if your kit needs to be replaced within 2 weeks of purchase.
Step 2
- With a clean knife make an X in the window provided. Leave flaps over the substrate.
- Place your kit in a cool area of your home that gets indirect sunlight (like the amount of light you would need to read). Direct sun rays can harm your grow kit. LIGHTLY mist twice daily until you see pins (baby mushrooms) forming under your flaps which can usually take 2-3 weeks. See photos below for what pinning would look like. Remember to STOP misting as soon as you see these.
- See Photos Below -
Step 3
- Once you notice the mushrooms start to form STOP MISTING YOUR KIT DIRECTLY, this can cause contamination.
- Take 2 of the sticks and insert them into the tiny “x” holes on your box angled upward. Mist the inside of the disposable breathable tent lightly once or twice and place over the kit. See photos below for a better idea on what it should look like.
- Consider using one of our reusable table top humidity grow tents found here on our website for easier cultivation.
Step 4
- LIGHTLY mist the inside of the tent 2-3 times a day or when tent is completely dried. NOT the mushrooms directly as this can cause a light brown contamination called bloch bacteria. After a few weeks you will notice your lion's mane grow from possibly a pink to a white-beige color, developing little icicle like teeth. To harvest just twist and pull the heads off the side of the block.
- After your first harvest you can remove the block from its bag and let it soak fully submerged in room temperature water for around 3-4 hours. Place the block back in its bag and set the bag back in the box for a try at a second harvest.
